Are you passionate about protecting wildlife and eager to gain hands-on experience in conservation? Do you want to be immersed in Zambia’s stunning wilderness while making a real difference? The GRI Volunteer Programme offers a unique opportunity to work directly with wildlife, support ethical rehabilitation, and engage with local communities. This experience will stay with you for a lifetime. The GRI Volunteer Programme places small

groups of volunteers, accompanied by GRI staff, at the heart of Africa’s wilderness, to join dedicated teams working to protect endangered species and support local communities. This is not just a volunteer placement; it’s an immersive experience that combines field research, wildlife care, and community outreach.
Hands-On Field Research
Volunteers help track and monitor orphaned elephants in the various phases of their rehabilitation and reintroduction in the wild as well as local elephant populations, collect data on animal behavior, and assist in habitat preservation. This practical experience builds valuable skills in conservation science and wildlife management.

Ethical Wildlife Rehabilitation
The programme also involves caring for orphaned animals. Volunteers assist trained staff in providing medical care, feeding, and rehabilitation, helping elephants and primates recover and return safely to the wild. This work requires patience and compassion, offering a rare chance to witness the recovery process firsthand. GRI has a hands-off policy to ensure that animals meant to return to the wild don't get too used to human contact.
Community Engagement
Conservation depends on strong relationships with local communities. Volunteers participate in outreach initiatives that raise awareness about wildlife protection and sustainable living. These include educational workshops, community meetings, interaction with schools and women entrepreneurial groups.

Zambia, an African gem
Zambia is home to some of Africa’s most spectacular national parks, including South Luangwa, Lower Zambezi, and Kafue. In the Lusaka National Park - at the Lusaka Elephant Nursery - and in Kafue National Park, GRI's volunteering activities start early and include animal care, habitat restoration, community projects and gathering scientific data. Evenings are spent around campfires, sharing stories - and chores - and discussing the day’s experiences.
Accommodations are simple but comfortable. Participants end up building friendships with people who share their passion for conservation and adventure.
